The Simple Gift of Walking

I ran into Reed, one of the folks who follows this simple blog, today on my walk. He was telling me how he "just needed to get out," and his walk was the way he was doing that. What a treat to visited with him as I was out walking towards the grocery store and he was heading into town. We visited for awhile and then walked our separate ways. It struck me as we parted that walking is one of the cheapest, simplest, and best things in the world. Most everyone can do it. You don't have to pay for any special equipment (unless you want nice shoes, etc.) or gym memberships. It can be an opportunity to catch up with people, to walk with others or run into them. There's the benefit of exercise, the opportunity to get some Vitamin D in you, the social aspect. Lots of benefits.
When I got home this afternoon, I had this quote in my email box (an email I receive from www.gratefulness.org):

As i walked down the avenue, the late afternoon sun was turning the lovely and dying sycamore leaves intofragments of brilliant stained glass, and i said to myself, "This alone is worth the price of admission to our broken and glorious world." Linda Larsson, from an email

And, I am reminded that the simple gift of walking can also open us to the extraordinary gifts in God's world.
Today begins a weekend - maybe you can take advantage of some time to "GET OUT," and enjoy the gift of walking today.
Be well! Diana
