Hints from Heifer

I don't get many magazines. I decided a few years ago that when I do read magazines, it only makes me feel like there is more I need or more I need to do. Plus, they clutter my space and become solid waste (not to mention the resources used to make & transport them - glad, though that we are able to recycle them here in the SC Borough!).

But, I do receive two good non-profit mags, b/c I donate to their cause. One is "World Ark," published by Heifer. One great feature is "The Good Life," featuring Tips for Better Living. Less is Really More, we learn in a piece on helping us consider how we celebrate the holidays - how we set the table, send party invitations, or even give a donation to charity in honor of your neighbors (or other guests) and have a pot-luck party instead.

I loved this piece because I enjoy cooking, especially with my family: The Family that Cooks Together, Stays Together. Helping us think about our gift-giving, how about compiling a collection of family recipes and have a family cookbook printed and bound for each household on your list. One year we gave brownie mix (from scratch, w/ chocolate chips!) in a mason jar, well packaged with a simple bow & recipe.

What are some of the ideas you're considering this year as you prepare for the holidays....Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas?
